High Stiffness Lightweight Aramid Honeycomb for Helicopter Rotor Blades
Helicopter rotor blades operate in one of the most demanding structural environments imaginable: constant flexing, torsional twisting, centrifugal loading, and vibration—all while being subjected to aerodynamic forces that demand precise shape retention. The core material within the blade's sandwich structure plays a decisive role in maintaining stiffness, minimizing weight, and ensuring fatigue life.
Our High Stiffness Lightweight Aramid Honeycomb is engineered specifically for rotor blade applications. It delivers the exceptional specific stiffness required to resist blade bending and twisting, the ultra-low density needed to reduce centrifugal loads on the hub, and the fatigue resistance to survive millions of cycles without degradation.
This is not a general-purpose core. This is a core designed for the unique demands of rotary-wing flight.

2. Why Aramid Honeycomb for Rotor Blades?
Rotor blades require a core material that can:
· Maintain shape under aerodynamic bending and torsion
· Survive cyclic loading without stiffness loss or creep
· Absorb impact from foreign objects (birds, debris, hail)
· Resist moisture and corrosion in all-weather operation
· Bond reliably to composite spars and skins
· Remain lightweight to minimize centrifugal forces and improve payload
Aramid honeycomb uniquely satisfies all these requirements. Unlike aluminum honeycomb, it does not corrode or suffer galvanic issues. Unlike foam cores, it provides superior shear stiffness and fatigue performance. Unlike standard paper honeycomb, its aramid fibers deliver high toughness and damage tolerance.
The Regular Features Can Be Achieved:
1. Excellent resistance to high temperature, therefore the core can be used at a temperature more than 200 ℃ for the process of autoclave;
2. The density range is ranging widely from 29-160 kg/m3 to meet different capacity structure requirements;
3. It has extremely high shear strength, especially compared with foam core material, which is more suitable for use in light structure.
4. High toughness, high resistance to damage compared with other honeycomb core materials;
Fire retardant, low smoke, low toxicity (in line with the most stringent flame retardant and smoke standard of aviation);
5. Excellent creep and fatigue properties, can be used for the medium and long term.
6. High humidity strength, can be used in high humidity environment;
7. Easy to process, reduce production cost;
8. Corrosion resistant (not corroded by moisture or other medium that is in contact with it, nor can it electrochemically react with carbon fiber, like a metal honeycomb);
9. Superior insulation sound insulation, compared metal and glass fiber materials;
10. Under the same weight, have better thermal insulation and sound insulation performance, more comfortable and energy conservation and environmental protection;
It is easy to process, and it is more convenient to operate than the metal honeycomb.
